Are We There Yet?
I've been thinking (and thinking, and thinking) these last couple of weeks on what it means to be self-employed. Sometimes it's awesome and you get to take spectacular road trips, and other times you're wandering in circles in the desert.
We haven't exactly been wandering in the desert, literally or metaphorically, but learning how to be self-employed has its ups and downs. At about seven weeks in, I started to be plagued by anxiety and self-doubt. Can I do this? Am I contributing anything worthwhile to this business? As a social media manager for a small business, it's not always clear whether my efforts are having their desired effects. I can count clickthroughs and sales, but that intangible thing that is brand identity isn't as easy to track.
At any rate, I'm loving the ideas that are exploding forth as we travel throughout the Northwest United States. As usual, there's never enough time to do everything (and I desperately miss my loom!), but being on the road fuels creativity like nothing else.
I stumbled across an article about this woman who is pretty much living my dream - traveling around in her RV with her loom, running her business out of the RV. Mike and I often joke that our next RV will have to be bigger to accommodate a "loom room." Until then, I'm sticking to knitting and spinning!
